Day 3

Our walk today started about 9km west of St Hilarions Castle and ended in Bellapais village. A total of 14.8 miles. Our military escourt met us at St Hilarions Castle and took us along some fantastic tracks avoiding the main roads. It was disappointing to forfeit the height we had so painstakingly won, in favour of a route through the military area, but worth it in the end. We will just have to climb higher tomorrow! The Turkish troops were on the firing range by the side of the road as we walked by - which gave us a bit of a fright! As did the troops lined up with bayonets attached and shovels - we thought we might be live practice and then destined for shallow graves! Again another tasty picnic lunch provided by Margaret Chawner (she even made chocolate cake for our morning coffee stop as we had no Easter eggs). No photos today as we were under military restrictions most of the day! Margaret walked till lunchtime today then travelled in the support vehicle as her blisters were quite bad. I got back to the hotel, had a quick shower to get rid of the dust then jumped into the deep end of the swimming pool to cool off and to ease the heat rash on my calf. I also picked up a couple of small blisters but nothing to worry about. Longer day tomorrow!
